Description

In contrast to the minimalism of contemporary design, a reinterpretation of past styles has never ceased to be the language with which interior design expresses the taste and culture of living. Massimo Listri, one of the world's leading photographers, has been making memorable contributions to the most important international interior-design magazines for the past thirty years. He has visited the most beautiful old-style houses, and has created an extraordinary and unparalleled collection of photographs of their interiors. The book is divided into areas (libraries, drawing rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and so on), making it a priceless source of ideas and solutions for interior designers and for all those who love traditional homes. A museum in itself, it gratifies the eye with the art, culture and history of beautiful houses, while celebrating the talent of its author.

The title alone got me - not merely maximalist but anti-minimalist. Wonderful selection of over the top and historic homes - from the 18th century to Tony Duquette. A great antidote to all the "tasteful" white and beige out there and the mid-century modernism that has become a design world knee jerk.Over all very good quality book as such - there is though a repetition of photographs in some of the chapters which seems a waste of space when there are so many other "over the top" rooms out there for the anti-minimalist to savor.
